One of my otos was just killed by my male ram. The ram pair are getting ready to breed and it looks like they took a dislike to the otos in the tank. By the time I noticed they were stressed, it was too late for this one. He was resting on the bootom and my male ram attacked and killed him just as I was going to net him out. So, a word of caution: rams are usually peaceful but they can get downright nasty when they breed.

I've known rams to be aggressive even when they weren't breeding.

I personally wouldn't trust any cichlids in a peaceful community setup. Besides maybe keyhole cichlids...

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Either that or the Cichlids I've mentioned in my Beginner's Recommendations topic in Getting Started. They would probably be more tolerant of your Otocinclus unless the Otocinclus actually started snacking on the eggs.

In any case, I'd do my best to put the breeding Cichlids in their own aquarium the moment they began reproducing

I know that Tryst knows this, but I don't think she had the extra room to move all the fish out of the tank hence the reason the otto got killed. I agree that no matter what cichlids aren't to be trusted when breeding no matter how peaceful they are during no breeding times. Sorry to hear about the otto.
