Any Cory experts out there????

I'm trying to figure out how to stock my 15 US Gal, and i want corys, but what is the minimum amount???
http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/General%20Freshwater/68249.html
This post tells you about all of the fish that i want. The only thing is, my LFS only sells Albino, Bronze(C. aenus) and peppered(c. palaetus) i have probably spelt these wrong.

Please reply soon, as i think i really should find out how to stock my tank.

many people will tell you the minimum number is 6, but the minumum should be 4, although the more cories you have the happier theyll be, so if you have the space get 6 or more

In that case, how many Albino Bronze (Corydoras Aenus) could be happily kept in a 15gal with platies, black neons, and maybe ottos?

Anything more than two is fair game. A trio is the standard size of a breeding group of corydoras, and most breeders follow this rule of thumb, so to speak.

you have 2 platies, correct? if you got 5 black neons and no ottos you could probably fit 4 even though its a little overstocked

With Corydoras, the more you'll have, the happier they'll be, but in a 15 gal. tank, with 7 other fish, you cannot add much. I wouldn't add any Corydoras, but add a few Ottos.

as i responded in one of your other threads, dont add anymore live bearers, get a small school of 5-6 tetras, and add a few ottos.

its pretty much either the corys or the ottos. now on the other hand, if i remember right your tank hasnt been up for 6 months, right? there prolly wont be enough food for the ottos.

you might consider no ottos and getting 4 albino corys in that case....i would say both is out of the question, as is adding more plattys.

well, i see now why you were against a ram as a snail eater in the freshwater forum where you posted about this same subject.

so, to clarify, you now have two albino corys? well, based on your other info you gave, your current set up is 2 platies and 2 corys?

well, i would say add 2 more corys then, and maybe a couple male guppies. schools of fish are out since you decided to get the corys, so forget about your tetras.

so, new reccomended loadout:

2 male platties
4 albino bronze corys
2 male guppies

thats the last loadout advice i am handing out, im wasting my time i can see, lol.

I just want to comment, in my experience,
Aeneus Cory are too big for a 15g tank.
These large corys grow to an average of 3 inches,
and I have seen some topping 4 in my LFS show tank.
I would advise you to go for a smaller cory, like
hasbrosus, or pygmaeus, or pandas, or trileatus, or ambiacus, that are much more
suitable for a smaller tank.
I personally wouldnt keep corys in a group less than 5,
but thats just me.

I agree with Sneaky Pete; aeneus cories probably do need an aquarium larger than 15 gallons to be happy, and definitely can hit a hefty 3" at the very largest, however, I'm currently working with three trios of gold shouldered aeneus peru in two ten gallons and one twenty (space constraints) and they seem fine (all are about 2.5", give or take). My oldest group (recently added six) has already produced at least one spawn, though with the loricariids in the tank, they don't seem to last.

Reun: i really appreciate your advice.
But about 60% of people say that Rams are difficult to care for, and lots of people say it is only the germans eat snails.
Besides my LFS don't have them anywhere.
Also, some people said yes to corys, and some said no, you said, That i had to choose: Corys OR Ottos. I chose Corys.

Hi, I have two cories in seperate tanks (5 gallon and 5 1/2 gallon). I bought these fish before I found out that they schooled so I didnt know that keeping them alone would be wrong. Do you think they will die or live a very short life?

No they just won't be happy. They need a tank bigger than a 10g and a group of atleast 4.

As the fishy people have pointed out, Corys are schoolers, and the bare minimum is 4.
That is why i am getting 5
