I have added my 2 Upsidedown Catfish to my 55g which also has a Fetherfin Syno in it. The first night they seemed to be a bit boistorous but I know that Synos are usually boistorous when eating anyway (well Upsidedowns are usually) so didn`t take too much notice of it.

I just posting here to see if I am correct or are they going to be fighting?

how big is your featherfin? i forgot and is he boistorous towards your other fish at all?
i don't think they will fight, but if they do it'll be a small scrap over a good hiding place or food

Your catfish should be okay, as long as their sizes are relatively near to each other. As Catfish Dude said, they might scrap every once in a while, over something the fish want, but you shouldn't have anything serious going on.

well the Fetherfin is 6inches, Upsidedown Cat is 4inches and 2 inches. The upsidedown aint boistorous to the others, just to the other Syno.

They seem fine now but will just keep an eye on them to make sure.

I didn`t think they would fight aggresively, was jw

Featherfins aren't noted for being especially aggressive (though they can be farily boisterous with each other when adult, and should be given large quarters and lots of shelter to accommodatre this). I would not immediately suspect that upside downs (nigriventris) would be problematic companions, but watch them just in case.

Syno's to watch out for are Synodontis notatus, Synodontis schal and Synodontis acanthomias. These are large, predatory, and unlikely to tolerate other Syno species. Ideally, these should be in a species tank, or with companions too big to eat (and acanthomias has a LARGE appetite, with mouthparts to match ...)

I don't think a domino or schall syno would fit in a 55 gall anyways :%) (don't know of S. acanthomias). Although, I've never heard anything but good things about schalls. Yes, they get large, and sure, they may eat things that are bite sized--most fish will, they are peaceful to anything over congo tetra sized in length. Some guy in my aquarium club owns a few of them, and he says they're the life of the party.

Synodontis schal is peaceful with things too big to be eaten, but is more than usually territorial with other Synodontis, and so needs lots of space if you're going to keep more than one, or attempt keeping it with something like nigromaculatus which is also large and fairly feisty.

Synodontis acanthomias is an underwater battle tank of a fish, despite being unarmoured. And it's probably one of the biggest Synos in existence, I've been told it'll exceed 12 inches with ease if given the space.
