My cories are laying eggs!

The other cories were coming along and eating them so I scraped as many eggs as I could find and put them in a brood net and directed the filter in that direction for circulation.

By golly those eggs are sticky little things. Had a job just to get them off my finger.

Is there anything else I have to do? I am so excited I'm fit to bust.

Brood nets are pretty good at blocking circulation from the outside. I think getting a bubbler for the eggs might be a good plan. That's pretty cool, good luck!

You can also put an airstone in the net, for better water circulation.

I usually remove the egs from the tank & put them in a smaller tank & add some anti-fungal drops.

Nice, fat female there........

the airstone would be wise...

also put some cuttings in there for the fry to hide in!

if you have an empty QT tank they would be better off in there but the brood net would be fine for now...

GOOD LUCK!!!/:'

I just checked the net and there are two babies swimming about. Forget photos, not even my macro camera is that good. They are smaller than a pin head.

The cories are really putting it to me by laying only a week after I put them in the new tank. It's not even fully cycled with Nitrites still at .25

I have popped a bit of java moss in the bottom of the net, and a small stone so the filter doesn't blow air under the net and float it up. I have some sort of liquid fry food, so every few hours I will pause the filter and drip a bit into the net.

Hopefully these little midgets don't get themselves stuck in the net frame as they might not survive. Fingerscrossed.

CONGRATS BREN! what kind of cories are they?

An update: There are more like 8 babies now and I cannot see anymore fertile eggs. Hey, are bronze cory babies supposed to be smaller than a newborn guppy? They seem to have 2 swimming speeds, stop and flat out.

This is the best shot I could get on something born smaller than a pin head.

Oh boy! Gone_Troppo gave me this link on Panda cories and it is great.

Just eyeing off my shrimp breeding nano tank now. It would look pretty cool with sand and cory babies in it.

Congrats........ yes they are smaller than a pin head & that shot is really good.

If possible feed them Microworms & after a few days, start feeding them Live Brine Shrimp. I found that those are the best for fry.

Be careful with the net, as they might get stuck.

Yes, that was my concern with the net too.
They like to wiggle under the plastic framework and then the net holds them and they are stuck.

As an interum measure Gone_Troppo had a good idea of just using a handled scoop net to hold them.

I got out my wire pliers and bent the handle to curve over the top of the side glass with the end hanging down to counter balance the net weight and then bent it hard to hold onto the glass. It isn't a pretty addition as I did it at midnight but it sits just above the waterline.
I smoothed off a little piece of slate and popped two little pebbles in the net and the slate on top. Then the java moss and a big sword leaf over that to keep too much light entering.
I very carefully undid the brood net from the frame and turned it inside out and released the cory babies into their new net.

Guess what? There are way more than 8 babies. Too many for me to count. It is probably more accurate to say 8 eggs didn't hatch.

Of course you've got plenty of fry...... Usually i have about 50 fry from each female, when i try to spawn the Corydoras.

The last time i tried the C.aeneus albino, i had more than 200 fry from 4 large females.

Goodluck & try to feed them some Live or decapsulated brine shrimp.

Ah Huston we have a problem. The tank today was once again covered in eggs!

I have faithfully gathered up quite a few and put them into another brood net. One female even tried to put her eggs on my wrist as I was harvesting the eggs off the glass.

My big cory population has just grown by two, as I brought home a couple of cute as button Jullii.

I also bought tank 6. It is a long 25.9ltr or 6.8gal US. I have a sponge filter and the proper cory gravel; almost a sand.

It just so happens I wanted to add new gravel pebbles to 1/3 rd of my community tank. I gravel vaccumed the existing gravel, and tossed the mulm into the new tank, then added my gravel in the community tank.

The new tank cleared pretty quickly and there is a layer of mulm atop the gravelsand. I also managed to vac up a baby glass shrimp, so the new tank has wild life in there now; albeit a little bitty one.

More eggs........ Congrats.

My C.aeneus albino never stop laying eggs & most of the time i just let them eat them.... It's a pity, but i don't have enough space to raise all the fry, as i'm trying with other types of Corydoras. 2 days ago the C.paleatus layed some eggs & hopefully in 2 days time, they'll hatch.

You can raise some fry in the new tank you've bought, or else put a trio of Corydoras & let them lay the eggs there & then remove the big ones, before they start eating them.

Sponge filter is a must with Corydoras breeding. /:'

I am not sure if my pair of albinos are m/f. One got real bad fungus and finrot a while ago and has only just recovered, less one pectral fin. I think its a he, and I call him nemo. The other could be a she but both are not yet mature so I guess I'll wait and see.

I think my bronze cories will keep me busy enough with breeding. I think I have 3 females and 2 males.

I put 3 of the cory babies into the newly setup tank last night and they are swimming around in the mulm today. Do they eat that disgusting stuff? Do I have to feed them in there yet, or will they find enough bits to eat without my help?

More bronze cory eggs laid today. The male tried to protect one batch but as he was seeing one egg eater off, another was sneaking in behind and stealing the eggs.

Then of course the female kept asking him to T with her for each batch of eggs to be fertilized. I think she holds his sperm somehow either inside or out and then she sits quietly for a few minutes and lays several eggs and holds them in her anal fins, then she finds somewhere to deposit the fertile eggs.

When she wants to lay more eggs, she visits the male again. This poor male fertilizing his female and guarding eggs will sleep well tonight, poor fellow.
I have gathered the majority of bunched eggs and they are in the net.

I have taken some pictures but haven't even had time to download them off the camera yet. I was so excited they are probably blurry. Christmas day has been busy.
