It's a mystery to me...:%)

Got a description? Does it look like a cyprinid shark (ex. Red Tailed Black, Rainbow, Bala), a catfish (it has whiskers), an Irridescent Shark (Pangasius hypophthalmus), or a Hifin Banded Shark (Myxocyprinus asiaticus)?

Most species of "shark" do not do any good in a small tank, as their body shape implies lots of swimming.

It is black with silver stripes and it does have wiskers. The pet store I got it from also had what they called albino mystery sharks.

Your striping description fits the Irridescent Shark very well... These fish have whiskers, even though they're small ones. This species especially because it has an albino form. The only other catfish with common albino forms are the Channel Catfish and the Bronze Cory.

Well your research will prove that the young are schooling fish, and can form really strong bonds with school mates. This hyperactive fish really needs room to swim, and this is compounded by the fact that it can grow over four feet long. If not given the room to swim, their mad dashes in fear may cause them to hit a few things in the tank really hard.

Mystery Shark... I can't believe an LFS would use a name like that on a fish that has had a common name for decades...:%)

I just bought a neat fish today, it was labeled as a mystery shark. Does anyone here know anything about it or even heard of it? I can not find anything on it.

Dragon fish.... That sounds like a bichir to me. They are also sometimes called dinosaur eels. Common names are getting just plain ridiculous.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Actually, the term "dragon fish" is most often applied to the Asian red arowana or the violet goby.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

If you have a 125 gallon tank with brackish water and don't mind never seeing it in your life then a dragon fish might be for you!

Don't feel bad airborne, most people don't have a tank large enough to keep one. My recommendation would be to return it to the store and tell them what it actually is. If they don't change the way they do business by changing the name on the tank and changing the information they give about it, then I'd just never return to that fish store again...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.
