I am bringing home a BN Pleco later today. The tank is a well established 20g with 1 Bolivian Ram, 3 cories, a few pristellas and a small angel. I've got several "cave"-type hiding spots and a little drift wood in the tank, as well as some plastic plants. Is there anything I'm overlooking? Any words of advice for a new pleco owner?

The BN will be fine with those tank mates & he'll be quite happy with the caves & Driftwood. You'll have to do more water changes & gravel cleaning, as the BN will "poo" alot.

Ah yes, I do remember hearing that they produce a lot of waste. Thanks for the reply Jason.

Sounds like a great tank for a BN. When I got mine, some of my ornaments began to lose all their paint. Turns out my BN was "cleaning" them. Had to throw thme out as he basically destroyed them, but he was fine.

Make sure you have some bottom feeder wafers. My BNs also like broccoli, cucumber, zucchini, etc

Yeah, that looks fine.

To go along with the above post, you will have to supplement whatever algae it eats with actual food. I feed my BN algae wafers and zucchini, and the pig loves them.

Also, keep in mind that bristlenose plecos like brown algae more than any other type. Mine has kept my twenty-nine gallon tank all clear of brown algae, but has not eaten or has not been able to eat any green algae. If you run out of brown algae for your plec, it wouldn't be a bad idea to feed vegetables more often, so that it gets plenty of plant matter in its belly.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Thank you all for the great response. However, I have bad news...The breeder I was going to get the fish from lost all of the fry! Apparently, something, one of the fish perhaps, broke the glass on the heater some how and caused it to short, and electrocute everything in the tank! I feel so bad for him, but I am still anxiously searching for a pleco!

That's really bad. Just keep searching for a BN & you don't be disappointed. They're great fish.
