I've got two of these, though I could only spot one.

They're currently in a 55gal, but if they turn out to be a large species, I can move them into a 150g.

Thanks in advance, i'm sure it's a simple ID...

Common pleco... It will outgrow your 55 gallon tank, but the 150 gallon should be fine.

They get big, so it's better to put them in the 150 gal. tank.

How fast do these bad boys grow? All of my 150g tank fish are 8-12" and some aggressive, I don't want to drop these 3" plecs in there, they'd be a snack.

Maybe I could grow them to 6-8" in the 55g?

Thanks.

Expect them to be 6-8" long in about one year. They will be fine in your 55 gallon until then.

Ok, thanks.

...just to be certain, the TWO of them will be fine together in my 55g until they're big enough for my 150g, with about 16 other (smaller, 2-6" ) community fish?

I've just heard that common plecs don't mix well with other common plecs...

Thanks again.

They can be territoral towards one another, but as long as you have enough hiding places for each of them it should be fine. And yes, you can grow out two of them in a 55 gallon tank.

If you have any problems, it would probably be fine to add them to the 150 gallon, as their bony armor and sharp spines discourage other fish from attacking them.

I had a small plec (2 inches) with a oscar of same size the oscar grew 3 times as fast as the plec and never tried to eat him. i doubt anything in your 150g would try to eat him.. i find there is a difference between a aggressive fish and a hungry fish
