Plecos are best added to the tank after it has finished cycling and matured. They are not the best fish to cycle with. They give off a lot of waste, fortuantely this one is small. I would personally reccomend returning it to prevent problems to it from the cycling. Others will suggest keeping it in there let it ride out the cycle. Did you purchase a sinking food for him?
Happy cycling.............openwater.

I must agree, that for that price, he is probably a common plec and will get too large for that tank over the next year, give or take. As for your tank, it is still not mature, and could be hazardous to the plec. I would definitely keep a close eye on him, and the tank. I would be doing water changes as well, during the cycling tank, as if the ammonia and others get too high, it will certainly not do well for the plec. The water changes may cause your cycle to take longer to complete too, so just be cautious. I would definitely be warry of adding any more fish until the cycle has completed, as this will add to the ammonia and could cause serious affects.

HTH...
