Look no farther than the common bristlenose. These fellows are super hardy, built like tanks, and will clean a small tank of algae practically overnight! Just ask mine. There is no algae anywhere in my 29 gallon tank. He is very peaceful, and gets along with all the other inhabitants, including my cories.

Ottos are even better algae eaters, but they can be a pain to acclimate. They are pretty delicate fish, and they don't have the down-to-earth good looks of the bristlenose.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

They will breed fine in a pot. Heck, they'll breed fine under a flat rock. However, if you're really die hard about getting a cave, you don't need to make one yourself---the ever useful PVC pipe will do just fine. Also keep in mind the stronger the current, the less likely you are to see them outside.

I could suggest several algae eaters. One is the ever popular but not so hardy Oto, another is the BN plec, I keep 1 in my 10g and he does fine, you just have to keep up on the water changes. A third is Hillstream Loach- I also have 1 of these in my 10g and it is hard to tell who eats more algae, the bn or him!
Snails are great for algae too, and you could also go for a pitbull pleco, or something of the like.

I need a power head, not an airstone. I am getting a Rio 1100. I will add one more pot and then a cave which I am making myself as they need a cave specially for breeding and the cave won`t do.

I'd add one more pot (one for each plec). The bubbler is called an airstone.

Sure will. Two or three pots and a small hunk of DW should be sufficient for three queens.

Yeah, I going to get more rocks like as I only have 2 plant pots in at the moment and I was thinking of getting one of them air bubbles as it will help oxygenate the bottom wont it?

Goldies are of the species LDA09. Queens should be fine in a 15 gallon. I have had a pair of king tigers breeding in a ten gallon before, despite the fact that the young were eaten my a particularly aggressive male.

Oh right, UK...they look so similar at first glance--my mistake/apologies/etc. I would go with a green spotted gold hypostomus if you can find one. Stay samll, looks great, eats algae.

I in UK. Aus can`t get exotic Plecs as the government are afraid they will be released and breedand kill off the natural wildlife like pigs have been released over there and bullfrogs(thnk it is bullfrogs).

I can get 3 Zebra Ottos for £30. That includes the delivery charge.

I would go with otos. Also my bn is nowhere near that great. In fact he manages to keep the back glass barely cleaned in my 29g and never touches the front or the cave. Still an algae filled tank. He does like the half inch thick green algae that keeps growing on the filter intakes but even that still exists. I'm hunting for zebra otos

But the bristlenose does have its downfall. In a small tank like a 15gallon considering bristlenoses are pretty hefty waste producer i would get the ottos. I would get 3-4 of them. Make sure you accilamate them good like books said as they are sensative to changes in water parameters
