I was wondering what do fancy plecos need to thrive in an aquarium. What do they eat ect.. I have always seen them and admired them, so i was just wondering.

That really depends on the species. Some of them are easy to care for, while others are more delicate than discus. Plecos are a diverse bunch, and many have way different care requirements from others. Some plecs grow huge, others stay small. Some prefer meaty foods, while others are mainly vegetarian. Some plecs need very clean, fast flowing, highly oxygenated water to live; others don't give a hoot.
So you see, it really varies a lot.

Any species in particular that you're interested in?

Do you like any of the other Hypancistrus species? A lot of them have nice black and white coloring; one of the coolest is L260.

Another genus with a good number of black and white plecs is Peckoltia, though there are some "cream"-colored plecs in there as well.

You should look and see if you like any of the fish in either of the above genera.

Hiya

Suprised to see that a lot of L numbers have a lot of varients - i suppose it depends on where they are caught and how nature has took its course - even LFS sometimes do not know what they are selling - and mark them as a "L number Plec"

But planet catfish is a good site

Regards

Dave

Both L-260 and L-66 fade into a "cream" color with age. To be blunt, most hypancistrus are rather expensive.
