Mine (8) have lived for about a yeah and a half, and believe it or not with out plants. But don't worry i am gettin plants, anyway i would have to say, if you have algae and you get them through the first 2 months, then they live 2-4 years.

I bought 5 two months ago and lost 2 the first day but I think it was because my ph is much lower than what they have at the store I bought them at. Spent 2 hours acclimating them and one never made it into the tank. The other 3 are doing great.

Ottos are actually, IMO, quite hardy. Out of the five that I bought (keep in mind this was when I had only just begun fishkeeping and had no idea what the heck an ottos was--all I knew was that they were "cute", well, five survived. I'd assume they can live a good 3+ years, as most loracids are fairly long lived, even small guys like ottos.

Nearly all catfish (and especially plecos) are long-lived fish. I wouldn't expect any less than 15 years out of a well taken care of oto.

And the oldest recorded cory lived 10 years longer than that...

15 years would be great!
From what I've experienced..they are quite hardy, if they are healthy..
I bought 10 for my 125 gal planted tank..then added 3 more a few weeks later..and haven't lost a single one. Done very well.
Then I bought (from a different batch at LFS) 6 for my 20 gal planted..lost 2..bought 3 more..lost 1 more. but they had the appearance of having fin (tail) rot after inspection.. But the ones left seem to be thriving.
Mine LOVE water fleas in gel..and brine shrimp in gel..as well as frozen omnivore..and bloodworms. I do have some algae on my plants and driftwood and they spend a LOT of time working on that.
