Has anyone else experienced a sever short of these guys. Maybe its just my area but every single pet store in my area including Petsmart and Petco have not had any in stock for over a week. Generally around me we have new stock on Wednesday but they seem to be unable to stock any ottos. I am outside of Boston. I know not many of you are in the same area as me but I was wondering if guys are experiencing any type of shortages as well.

I'm out in the Midwest, but I've seen that shortage too. I think they're just VERY popular due to size and temperment.

I was told by my neighborhood Petco that they order fish on Fridays and get them in on Tuesdays, and if I wanted to order some fish, you can call them on Fridays and speak with the aquatics person who is ordering. See if your nearby Petco says the same thign and maybe you can jump on that bandwagon, if it's only due to people buying them up before you get there.

Also, I recently noticed their (Petco's) website has a new ordering system tagged onto it so you can order your fish straight from them with shipment to your home. They have a choice of everything from freshwater to saltwater, plus plants and live sand. I didn't check to see if they were offering to order Ottos there, but it's at least worth a shot to see if they are. (I'm in the same boat now that mine have tanked on me )

Oto's are very popular, because they are work horse in tank maintance, mine only stop working for about a hour a day. I have 6 in a 55 tank and all are fat and healthy. I have read that I should have 12 in a 55. I'm maimi,fl and finding different fish are hard to come by (most stores focus on Saltwater tanks) but otos seem to available all the time here.

Otto's are widely available in all LFS here.
I only had problem finding BN. I finally got hold of one around 2 weeks ago. He only needed one week of work in my algae plagued 75G tank. He is now enjoying his retirement

I finaly found a store that had them in stock and was able to get one. He and i say he because i am not sure how to sex them. Is quit large and has wonderfull color. His tail has a large black spot and in addition to the strip he has pepper spots all over. I have not seen one like that before. As for BN i have not seen any every. Maybe because i dont look for them and have just not noticed them. I think maybe i'll take a look this weekend
