Hello,

I have a 46 gl bow-front tank that's been up and running for four months.

After reading the great article by Calilasseia about Panda Corrys I knew I wanted them. I designed my tank for them and six of them were the first occupants. My family and I LOVE these fish!! They're wonderful. But, I have a sad story to tell.

When I got my Pandas from my LFS they were young and it was hard to tell the genders apart, I wanted at least 3 females and three males (four females would have been better). I ended up with two females and four males.

All was going very well until about a month ago when the guys started playing 'rough' with one of the females - like all four of them dog-piling on her and chasing her around the tank. I thought this was part of the mating process and was very happy. There was a lot of swiming up and down the front glass by the guys so I was hoping to see babies eventually.

After a couple of weeks of their attention the one female started to run away to the plants when the guys started up. Things kept up this way until a few days ago when I found her dead.

All the other Pandas and tank-mates are fine. Readings are very good, the tank is healthy. My only conclusion is that the guys 'loved' her to a point where the stress was too much for her and that killed her. Has anyone seen this befofre? Any thoughts? I want to get another female, should I?

Thanks,

Eric M.

If you can, get a couple more Panda's. The more the merrier with Corydoras & the more active they'll be.

It can be that she was stressed by the chasing, but i don't think that's the reason for her death.

Oh definately go get some more corries, if not Pandas another type to add to the insanity...I actually love my metaes, and they go through their own antics...But, yes get some more Pandas, metaes something the more the merrier as far as corries go, and they do great even mixed

and don't give up hope on finding fry they are tiny tiny tiny when they first hatchand can be a total pain to find in any tank

Here's a picture of the first metae fry I knew I had and had caught...

I set the ziplock on top of the penny and he decided it was a nice resting place that he could hide on He was about a week or so old, though I'm not positive, my little girls and guys like to get frisky behind the driftwood so I never know for sure

Good luck and don't give up hope heidi[/font]
