So far, I know I'm probably going with 8 Pearl Gouramies, 24 Julii Cories, 10-15 Long Finned BLack Widow Tetras (or some other tetra)..and I may plant half the tank eventually. I've gotten sand+fine gravel plant substrate for half the tank..saving up for 2 new light strips for that size so will be fake plants for now. The other side has medium gravel and rock formations (holey rock) and I have driftwood for both sides of the tank. Thought about doing a large group of Ottos..any other suggestions? Something not too big that won't eat plants or be aggressive whatsover.

Go with a bristle nose pleco, they only grows to 4 or 5 inches. Mine doesn't pay any attention to my cories or small schooling fish. Perhaps you can get a male & female.

I agree, go with a Bristlenose. They have great personalitys. They are also great with other fish. My Striped Headstander thinks so.

8 Ottos
1-2 Bristlenoses
1 Rare Plec

The BNs or other plecs won't hurt the plants?
I like BNS had a pair before but lost both.

girlunderrainbow - I'm not so sure that all plecos are safe with plants (they do have a vegetable-based diet in the wild). Mine devours quite a few plants within a very short space of time.

Not doing the Black Widows..didn't realize they might nip my gouramies.
So now it's:
8 Gouramies
20-24 Julii Cories
maybe 10 Hatchets for a Tetra school..
and maybe 15 Ottos?

i have some flying foxes in my 50g which are only semi-aggressive to each other. they don't bother the other fish and they don't eat my plants. in fact they will graze the leaves for algae which has built up on the plants. they get to a max size of 5-ish inches, so you could probably put 3-4 in your 125g.

one note with BN's is that they can occasionaly damage plants when they get bigger, and come feeding time they can get quite teritorial about their own private chunk of food. I'de say 1 BN wouldn't hurt though, my guess is a full grown one could do 1/2 the work of cleaning algae in the tank. Maybe throw in ottos and/or shrimp, both would do a better, safer job of cleaning plants.

My black skirts only nipped when they weren't kept in groups of 6+
People might be saying that they will nip after I said mine were nippy when there were only three of them
plus, I love black skirts

edit: I don't have hatchets, but they always looked cool, too
