Okay, uh, your fish is not a hypostomid because it has a moustache esque growth along the interopercular region.

It is not a hypostomid. Rather, a member of the ancistrid genus peckoltia. They won't grow any larger than 6", if even theat.

Not beyond reasonable doubt, but a peckoltia (or arguably hemiancistrus) it is, as opposed to a hypostomid, which can be deduced by heavy cheek ornamentation.

The subfamily hypostominae is divided hypostominae into two tribes; ancistri and hypostomi. Members of tribe ancistri are characterized by notorious odontodal growth in the operculous and pectoral regions, whereas hypostomids have little in the way of ondontodes, and what few they have are primarily centralized on the primary pectoral ray.

That depends on the indivdual species of loricariid.

Who told you that? Peckoltia are definitely not great algae eaters. Perhaps they will nibble on sparse algal growth, but they will NOT clear a tank in the way a herbivorously inclined loricariid will.

I would reccomend cutting down of feedings, grvael vaccuming better, and photoperiod reduction. Instead of trying to find a fish to mask your algae problems (many algae eaters are type specific), find the source of the growth and cut it off. If you really must have an algae eater, you'll need to specify what kind of algae you have.

I've never heard of that, and it isn't listed on Planet Catfish either. Are you sure the fish isn't Peckoltia vittata? They're pretty common, and are often known as the "candy stripe pleco".
