Rather, a member of the ancistrid genus peckoltia. They won't grow any larger than 6", if even theat. |

Members of tribe ancistri are characterized by notorious odontodal growth in the operculous and pectoral regions, whereas hypostomids have little in the way of ondontodes, and what few they have are primarily centralized on the primary pectoral ray. |

Peckoltia are definitely not great algae eaters. Perhaps they will nibble on sparse algal growth, but they will NOT clear a tank in the way a herbivorously inclined loricariid will. Instead of trying to find a fish to mask your algae problems (many algae eaters are type specific), find the source of the growth and cut it off. If you really must have an algae eater, you'll need to specify what kind of algae you have. |

Are you sure the fish isn't Peckoltia vittata? They're pretty common, and are often known as the "candy stripe pleco". |
