Hi! I have a pleco for 6 months and he has not grown at all. Is something wrong or am I just lucky to have a small pleco?

What type of pleco is it, and what size tank is it in? If they are kept in small tanks, they usually stunt, and do not grow on the outside. However, their insides still grow, leading to a slow, painful death for the fish. Plecos usually grow pretty fast and large when kept in big enough tanks.

Thanks! It is a Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus. I actually saved it. It was in a tank with bala sharks and they bit off half of his fin. Now the fin is fine and he is awsome!

This Plec grows to be around 8 inches fully grown and so would need to be in a 55g tabk at the least I guess. What size tank is it in now and how large is it currently?

L-1 snowflake chocolates definitely grow past 8". They are very similar in respect to the "common" pardalis, and reaches similar sizes of 16" in the wild, but more like 11"-13" in the home aquaria.

I think he should be fine in that tank even if it reaches the 14 inches it might reach. just give it a mixed diet of veggies and more meaty stuff

I've known PC to be wrong about quite a few things. One of which pertaining to the maximum size of a close relative, the pardalis. They profiles are member submitted, and can be inaccurate. I've personally seen L-1s up to a ruler in length.

Well regardless of what species it is, it might be stunted (but it's not your fault).

Not from a tank that's too small, but from its injuries. Serious injuries like getting all of its fins bitten off will most likely stunt the fish at least a few inches. The fish had to spend a lot of time and energy recovering from those injuries, and during that time it did not grow and probably has a significantly slower rate of growth once the injuries healed.

This is true with a lot of animals that get injured when they are young; they usually end up a lot smaller as adults than their healthier counterparts.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.
