i bought a common pleco, and i didnt look at it in the store, but now that i look at it, it is very light in color (it is tiny, about the same size as my fully grown peppered cory) will it get darker as it grows?

This fish is new? It's likely that the fish is just stressed from the move for the time being and will darken within days. However, it is possible that the fish will also darken with age; if I'm not mistaken, common plecs are usually darker as they grow older.

metagon is right. The color may change from light brown to very dark when it grows. And if fed properly, they grow really fast.
