Pleco hiding spots | |
Mia Hobbyist Posts: 86 Kudos: 79 Votes: 2 Registered: 20-Mar-2005 | I just recently was given a very large pleco from a friend....he had out grown their tank. I would say he's at least 9 inches long, and I am just looking for any ideas as to what I could put in my tank for him to hide in. I currently have a terracotta pot (which he sticks his head) but it's not big enough for all of him. He hides behind some plants I have but I just want him to be more comfortable. I guess I should also let you know that I have a 72 gallon in case you need to know.....thanks for anything!! |

There are very large and nice looking plants, but they start to get pricey. Other things you could also try is getting rocks. There is always fake decorations, but I'm not a big fan of those. What kind of pleco is it by the way? |

Right now I have a mixture of 3 real driftwood with 2 fake driftwood. The benefit of the fake is that their insides are hollowed out. But he is too big for them, my weather loaches like to play in them. |

Failing that the el cheapo approach of some halved drainpipe works rather well too. Siliconed rock stacks and bridges work ok too, but TBH a plec is never happier than when perched secluded in a more or less horizontal or slightly nose upwards position in a shady area on a large piece of wood. Well unless of course you have a large enough aquarium with enough substrate depth to allow them to dig their own burrow, such things though are usually the remit of public aquaria. |
