No not me, my BN..

well not really a red face but red lips and underside down to just past his pectoral fins..

I noticed it this morning.

I'm wondering whether the poor little bugger hasn't sanded himself down on the rockwork. Or is it signs of something else?

What can I do??

It can be irritation if it looks like the area where he lays on. If you have rough substrate they can form irritations. However, it would be wise to check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. You can take a bag of water to the fish store if you don't have all of the tests. Look for other signs of infection like lack of apetite, lethargy, losing weight, etc.

Also, are you using salt, fertilizers or any other chemicals in the tank?

What is the pH running? What tank size is it and how long ahs it been running?

No salt, and just Daily drops.

He's sitting in a little tank that's been running for a good few months, and everything has settled it seems. Nitrites and Ammonia are 0.

He seems to have a heathly appetite for everything but algae!

Potato, tomatos, and peas, but then again if I had the choice I wouldn't eat green   either!!!

The tank is basically a holding tank till I can get the new one up and running (basically a week at most)

Is there anything I can add to make sure he doesn't get infected or to ease the irritation?

I was thinking betta water conditioner, as it has aloe vera, what do you think??

Any chance you can get pics when he is on the front glass? You may want to add melafix and/or pimafix. If there is an infection involved it can help. If there isn't, it can help prevent one. Certain types of redness are caused from internal bleeding and will show trough. This usually looks more streaky.

Look at the albino cory on the right (you may need to scroll down to see the septicemia pics). YOu would mainly see the ststreaks or spots bleeding through on the underside, the base of the fins, the vent. It often looks blotchy or streaky. This is deadly and often difficult to cure. It would require oral antibiotics which are difficult to find. Waterborne antibiotics are ok, but often not strong enough. You could try tetracycline. By the time the hemorrhaging shows through the skin, there is often organ damage taking place.

Is he alone in this tank? How big is it? And, can you get a nitrAte reading? High nitrates (]100ppm) can cause dilation of the blood vessels giving the appearance of septicemia in some cases. The solution there is daily water changes of 25% with same temp water until you get down into the target range of ]40ppm and preferrably under 20ppm.
