Well, to answer your question quickly, rubbernose plecs are peaceful fish that will eat basically the same types of algae that BNs do.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

I have a rubbernose. He is pretty cool, rectangular shaped mouth. BUT, he stays in the same dang 6 sq. inch area of my aquarium all the time while algae grows rapidly on my driftwood and other parts of the aquarium. Aren't rubber nose usually pretty good about eating all the algae? Is my tank big enough that I need more? Does he just need some friends? LOL!!

PS: I thought they were rubber lip plecos not rubber nose. Are there two different kinds?

Rasbora Mary, those are just different common names for the same fish. I believe they are also called bulldog plecos. :%)

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I have these plecs in 2 of my tanks and noticed they generally stay in one area. I just bought them a few days ago so maybe that will change. The part of the tank they hang out in is very ckean though

Mine pretty much hangs out in one corner but I see him ride through my 20gal long sometimes. I drop an algae wafer in at night sometimes and it's gone in the morning.

Bulldog Pl*co and Rubbernose Pl*co = Chaetostoma milesi
the only other similarly named fish is just a plain Rubber Pl*co or Chubby Pl*co(Parancistrus aurantiacus), which is kinda ugly; and which is also in a completely different family. Rubbernoses are supposed to be really good and cleaning... never owned one though, so don't have any insight as to why the are staying in a small area....
But as far as care for the Rubbernoses, this simple to care for, peaceful omnivore and is ideal for tanks 30 gallons or larger, Size: up to 6 inches in about 3 plus years. Temp: 72-82F; pH: 6.5-7.5 dH: 8-12... and thats all i could find.

There are actually number of other Chaetostomas. My rubbernose is actually a Chaetostoma pearsei, L187; common name white spot bulldog or white spot rubbernose.
