For a 4" fish that I guess is going by the same name, at least 15 gallons, preferably more. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | That's a different fish than the one I'm talking about - that site clearly says "Rubberlip Pleco: Chaetostoma milesi." I very specifically stated that the fish I'm referring to is Parotocinclus jumbo. How much more clear do I have to make myself? And to reiterate: 2" plec: ~5 gallons, preferably 10 4" plec: ~15 gallons, preferably 20 6" plec: ~20 gallons, preferably 30+ [span class="edited"][Edited by LittleMousling 2004-08-05 14:36][/span] -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I think the confusion between the two stems from the fact that both are named after big, ferocious watchdogs X]. Anyways, IME, the latter, which seems to be more common in the aquarium trade than the former, expresses a great deal confusion and variability in it's identification. There are probably at least 3-4 different species out there now being circulated as rubber lip/nose bulldog plecs, most of them suposedly maxing at about 4-5 inches. I'd keep them in at least a 30. The little guys that mousling had mentioned can most definitely live in a 5, as they are both relatively stationary and small (2", anybody?). Finally, if you really have what was once called the "rubber nose" plec, now called the false or royal twig catfish, you should expect him to grow at least 6-7 inches in length, maybe more. |
