Hello, I have six Corys in a 48G with newly added Serpae Tetras(6) But they have been there for about a week and there still scred and hide whenever someone gets close to the aquarium, I know there supposed to be playful but do they just need time to adjust....no visible sicknesses.
Thankyou

Yep, new cories can be shy for months before becoming bold, and in some cases will always swim in fear when you approach their tank. That's just the way they are. The best ways to counteract the shy nature of some Corydoras is to make them feel comfortable and happy, with plenty of conspecifics and hiding areas.

What species are they? Some tend to be more shy than others.

Usually Corydoras aeneus is one of the bolder species. Unless you need to improve some aspect of their care, you should just be able to wait their nervousness out.

Wait another week or so and add more. Maybe 2 or 4 more. In bigger groups cories should be less scared.

I have 4 different cory species in my tanks. I have Pandas, Aeneus (albino), trilineatus, and sodalis. My trilineatus and aeneus cories are the boldest. The aeneus are actually the boldest out of all. I have 4 1 inch albinos in my 29g. They will eventually move to a 55g I'm setting up soon. They are always out digging in the gravel and don't run when I come up to the tank. All the other cories do. Especially the pandas and they are supposed to be playful and kind of bold.

I think in higher numbers they feel more secure. Secure=bolder. I have mine in relatively small numbers. I thought the trilineatus and sodalis cories would hang out, but both are quite shy.

Maybe when you get more, they will feel more secure. Also, it may be the cycling process that makes them less bold.
