I recently went looking for my first corydora catfish. I had decided on either pandas or trillineatus (spelling?). Well they didn't have any of those cories, but did have four schwartzi ones. I thought they weren't all that common, but when I asked they said that they regularly have them and so I wouldn't have trouble getting more to increase the size of the school. So I got them and they are doing great after 2 weeks.

When I went online to look up info about them I got conflicting info. Some places say they are wild caught and expensive, other places say they are easy to breed and give instructions on how to do it. They weren't expensive where I got them. All the cories were $3.50 US each. So what is the deal with them. Are they really wild caught and unable to be bred? Will I be able to find more of them easily. I'm not looking to breed them or anything...I just prefer to not buy wild caught fish if possible. They sure are cute little buggers though. They remind me of Charlie Chaplin for some reason If I can take a good picture I will be sure to post it.

They can be bred quite easily, but most of the ones you see in the stores are wild-caught. They are a relatively common species, despite being wild-caught, which is why they are inexpensive. I can get them for about $2.25 around here.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Thanks for the info! I am really enjoying watching them and hope to find some more soon. I've never had cories before and I think it is so neat to watch them eat and see food come out of their gills! I just put some pictures of them online. There are several pictures of them on the page for my 55 gallon tank.

Just wanted to say you have some very good pictures I noticed you have kuhlis and yo-yos. I'm like loaches a lot, even more than cories.
