There is a 7" royal plec at my lfs that Im interested in. I thought everything was good till I reserved it today. I noticed that its belly was starting to sink in. I can get a 7" one online with my shipment for 20$ more. I dont know which one to get.

Which variety--ituyas and dull eyes can be pretty damn expensive? They're pretty difficult to save once the belly's sunken in, though not impossible. What's the price of the current one?

There all just normals, The lfs one would be 35$ after credit, but is 80$ w/o. The online one is 50$. I could get a watermelon royal online though which is spotted instead of striped.

In my experience a "normal" royal is not $80. Mine was $40 from the most expensive store in the area. Their fish are usually near double what they cost anywhere else but their fish are also quite healthy and many I can't find anywhere else. I got an olive royal but they also had some just like mine except white in the places where mine is olive. Here's my royal when he was much smaller than he is now. The lfs one is 7" though and that makes a huge difference in price. I can easily get a 3-4" one for 35$ but I dont want one that small.

The ones they have now are variable sizes between 3-5" with 2 somewhat bigger ones that looked to be around 6". If I had the space I'd get one of the big 6" white ones but it's not possible. Mine was probably 4" when I got him and was about 8" when I moved him to the bigger tank a few months ago.

That sounds about right ((cheap, in fact), actually, depending on how much credit you have. At work, we let go L-191s for near 120 bucks (7"-9" ), 330s at 100 (though, IMO, fully spotted watmels are far prettier), and nigrolineatus L-190 at 70-100 (we have one shipment of thunder royals that went for 200 bucks each at 6"!), and we're on the expensive side. I'd go ahead an get him, so long as he's not in too bad of shape. A helpful hint to get your panaque feeding: take any dry marketed bogwood (don't trust the native NA hardwoods; many introduced and native species are toxic in buildup, and many a panque owner has lost his or her prized stock to a stray branch of cedar); mopani, malaysian, whatever. And brush onto it a mixture of egg whites and powdered spirulina disks. Allow it to dry, and place it into the tank. If that doesn't get the fellow to feed, nothing will.

I just seen a spotted watermelon for $60 at LFS(7" ). Thought that was a good price. I got my L-027b(4" for $20, but that was through a local breeder(I got lucky as he got 2 from a buddy shutting a tank down).I was there for cichlids and synos and NLS, LOL.

Well, Im going to get the plec online, I talked to the guy and he said that this shipment of plecs was very good and there all very strong. In the end it cost me about the same for either but I figured that the one online was better quality.

Fully spotted for 60 bucks? That's a GREAT deal--you should get it. 330s that have lost all their stripes go for around 60 at wholesale in most places!

Yeah it is, but that would be another large plec and I have already got alot of large cats. Hmmm, maybe if I were to move some more of my Decorus????

I think I would rather buy the plec and send it to you for free . Sometimes you really crack me up CoL. Nice try. BTW it was $70, but still pretty good.
