I recently added 2 ottos in my 10 gal planted tank.

Currently, i have 4 neons, 4 black neons, 3 peppered corys, and 2 ottos right now.

But my ottos mostly stay in the back of the tank, and they always hide behind rock or plants.

I have all sorts of algae (Brown, green, hair-like algae..) on glass and big rock in the tank, and it seems like they doen't even touch them.

I feed algae tablets every other days at night, and when i wake up the next day, tablets are gone, but i'm not sure if my ottos ate them or the corys ate them.

However, when i see them, their bellys are not thin, but fat enough.

Is this normal?

Oh, and will it be okay to add one more otto in there? I know my tank is a little bit overstocked, but since i did fishless cycle and have well established tank, will it be okay to overstock?

IT is overstocked. But not that much but i wouldn't add anymore!! I would try not feeding the algae wafers for a week or two. IF your ottos get skinny then they are eating the waffers. But i have 8 and they are awsome fish.

Your tank sounds fine right now in terms of stocking. Depending on how densely planted your tank is, you might be able to add another otocinclus.

IMO I wouldn't have more than the 2 otos in a 10g. It's hard to say who's eating the wafers since you're feeding them at night. It could be the cories, or both them and the otos. As long as their bellies look full & round I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I have otos in 2 tanks. In one they tend to hide in the plants like you say yours do. In the other they're quite active and I see them all over the tank. I think that part of it depends on the individual fish.

Thx for the replies.

Yeah, i'm not that worryed about my ottos starving since their bellys always look full.

But, they always hide in the back and i can't see those nice fish.

I just hope they'll feel my tank as home soon, and come out more often.

Oh.. I have one stupid question. Is Zucchini same as green squash? Cuz i wanna feed some vegie.

Do you notice a lot of poop on the substrate since adding the ottos? The next morning, after adding 2 ottos to my 10 gallon, the entire tank was covered in poop. If you stop feeding the algae wafers for a few days, the ottos will most likely start feeding on the algae in your tank.
