Got a scientific name for this beast?

Only "Dragon Fish" encompasses everything from Asian Arowanas through various Goby species to Batrachoids (venomous Toadfishes)! They're just some examples of fishes I've heard labelled "Dragon Fishes", and that's just freshwater - throw in the marine ones and this list includes the Lionfishes too!

Ah, these guys by any chance???

You'll have fun with those, they can reach up to 20 inches fully grown ...

Calli, what would you say is the minimum tank size for this fish? Many people I have met keep them in 10 or 20g tanks.
I would think a 20 inch fish deserves at least a 30 or 40g tank myself.

Even allowing for the fact that it's allegedly (and I emphasise allegedly because I've yet to see this fish in action) a fairly sedentary fish that alternates between long periods of quiescence followed by explosive lunges at prey, I would regard a 55 as being more appropriate, especially if housing more than one. Of course, if I was keeping this beast, I'd probably give it a 125 to make sure but that's me!

Two feet of predatory, *very* coldwater, *very* specialized fish is best left in the shop.

Cup - I keep hearing people say that these
fish have narrow throats and cannot possibly
even eat a tiny fish. Apparently its highly recommended
to keep bumblebee gobies as a tank mate?

Really now? Because last time I checked, we feed them gut loaded livebearer fry and ghost shrimp at 7-8" at the store . I've heard of larger specimens being offered chopped fish.

EDIT: A large specimen needs far more than 30 gallons to subsist. They are sporadically very active.

Thats what I thought!
Thanks Cup. I wondered why the LFS near
me had feeder goldies in with the dragon fish
if they couldnt possibly eat them.
Myself, I probably wouldnt put one in any less
than a 75g.
People who believe this fish can go in a 10 or 20g tank
sure irritate me!
