The elusive gold dojo that I have been searching for since I started this hobby has finally been found!! I was so excited when I saw that they had some at a fish store 45 minutes away. I couldn't find any in the tank, so I asked a salesperson if they knew if there were any in there. She said that they rarely have any in stock, so disheartened, I decided to get some other fish instead. While my boyfriend was picking up some shrimp, I went back to the dojo tank just to make sure and to my surprise...found one peaking out at me!! I couldn't resist! They only had one, but I snatched him up anyways!! Just wanted to share my excitement!

Awesome Jen! I bought one because I have a regular dojo and thought it would be neat to have a gold one. I didn't see them too often where I am in Florida but now I am starting to see them more and more. Congrats! I love them, they are such nuts!

I had my reservations about them. Most of the ones I have seen seemed to hide alot. Ive only seen them in New Orleans once.

i have 2 normal Dojos, i love them, such strange personallity, they like to bury their heads under one of the pieces of granite and their tails stick out and wave arond in the current they're so cute

i personally don't care for the gold dojos, but i did find a white one that had these brown patches on him, he's still at the LFS, and i'm considering letting my sister get him, since she wants a fish to call her own, and i'll have room in the 125

how much was your gold dojo? we can get them for round $12 up here i think, just curious

The regular dojo I have was like $2.99 USD and the gold one was 8.99 USD. I think the gold one is more of a nut than the regular one. Although the gold one is much younger and smaller and probably has more energy I suppose. Though the regular dojo is more able to actually get down underneath the gravel now and under ornaments.

My gold dojo was $12. I have two spotted dojos as well-one I got for $6 and the other for $3. All three of them are crazy, swimming all over the tank, running into other fish. They crack me up! The gold dojo, who is MUCH smaller, is probably the biggest spaz out of the three though. He seems to never stop moving and yesterday I actually got him to eat out of my hand! Not to bad for only having him two days

I always wanted a dojo and finally found them available here last month. I think I paid $3.99

I have a different 'elusive problem though. It lives in my 75g with all peaceful fish, but I rarely see it The tank has a fake wood piece with a few 2-3" holes, and the dojo disappears into those holes for what seems like days on end. Maybe it comes out at night but I need to figure out some way to block those openings

It does have nice coloring though...gold with some green and even pink. And I love their faces, quite wise-looking

More than likely Theresa it is hiding in the gravel. Mine hid a lot at first too but she sure knows when feeding time is!!!

I have had dojo's for the last 20 years. They are one of my favorite fish. All of the ones that I have ever had were like puppies. I always tried to stay away from dojo's that bury. That was one reason I dodged the golden/albino looking dojo's that I saw at the LFS. They seemed agitated. They sold for 9.99 each. They were there for 2 weeks and the LFS owner had to literally sift through the substrate to make them surface. If they seemed a little more relaxed I would have bought them. Who knows what kind of agony they were put through...

Mine did not start to bury until it was older. So it would have been impossible in the begining to stay away from that. The golden one does not bury, although it does like to get in to the bunches of java ferns which ends up up-rooting some. Oh well, I love watching him though and is worth the fuss.
