Ok, I'm at my wits end here... I have a pleco in my guppy tank (yes, I know I need to find him a new home, anyone want him?) About 2 weeks or so ago I finally got off my rearend and decided to plant the tank with more than java moss and Anacharis. And so I have planted the tank to my likings and what seems to be the guppies likings.

Now with all of this said, and everyone thinking I posted in the wrong area...my pleco keeps uprooting everything along the back wall of the tank...I replant it during the day, by the next morning they are all floating around the top of the tank...Anybody have any idea how to keep him from doing this?

I'm sure someone has a solution...I'll take any suggestions...it's beginning to drive me insane...:%)

Thanks, Heidi

the only solution is to take hime out of the tank. common plecos are herbivorious so he will keep doing it.

I agree---you'll need to remove him if you want it to stop. He probably gets stuck in the stuff and squirms free, uprooting all your plants--my BNs do it all the time (damn them ]. Though, anachris makes a great floating plant

Yeah, plecos are pretty clumsy. Yours will keep knocking the plants loose, until you move it. I don't know it weighing the plants down will help any, since these fish are so powerful. How big is it? If it is small, some kind of weights might help.

I know how you feel, though. My bristlenose keeps knocking into plants and ornaments in my tank, especially when he gets scared. He seems to dash away in fright before he looks, which is not a good idea.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

If you weigh the plants down they'd at least sink back to the bottom. Probably not staying in the same spots but it helped some with my cichlid and eventually the plants managed to root better. It could help temporarily untill the plec is in another tank.

Thanks ya'll, I went home and added about another inch of gravel to the plants in the back lst night. In the process, I decided it would be fun to pick on Plecky...He kept swimming closer and closer to me so I got ahold of the tip of his tail ; by the way he is 6-7 inches; Anyways I barely got him, and he took off!!! It was hilarious to watch him plow around the tank 3 times in a row at mock 80!!! Then the replanting of the plants had to be done, but to watch him fly was funny

I promise I won't do it again Anyone ever pet one? They are ROUGH to the touch!!!

Anyhows, I talked with the lfs this afternoon, they said they would give my $6 (USD) for him (they sale them at that size for $16.99 USD), So I'll probably take them up on it rather soon...hate to see him go, but he does need a bigger home, and for now I can't give that to him...Heidi

Yes common plecs are well common and i dont think you will have to much luck selling them to people. I only pet my angelfish which dont seem to mind. Im pretty sure if i tried the plec my plants would be gone to.

My boyfriend was petting my farlowellas while they were adjusting to the tank water. They kept wiggling up into his hand. Everyone else swims away except the male ram who has to attack me. He's so small it just pinches but it gets annoying.

I had this problem with my 9" (head to base of tail)(Red?) Sailfin Plec, and the soloution was.

Patience.

More gravel, I increased the amount of gravel to help the roots grab deeper (allowed plants to flex rather then be yanked out) (about 2" deep now)

a Product Called "Plant Plugs" which are what tropica uses in thier potted plants.

Most of the plants now stay down at night, the anubias nana at the front does end up on the other side of the tank occasionally tho.

Oh, and don't let people tap the glass, mine can clear the length of my tank (4') in about .1 seconds flat ripping out all but the driftwood..

Well, at some point next week I guess, since this week is over...my lfs said they would take him, so I'm happy...but isn't it funny to watch them fly? And noone taps the glass on my tanks...I'd be going balistic...not even Miss Sheila....Heidi
