I have been looking for this species since a while back, as they were on the proposed stocklist for my irrubesco tank (being a predominantly Sumatran species); figures that I'd unwittingly obtain a specimen AFTER I no longer had the puffers.

Here's the story: This afternoon, I was unloading the new shipment of normal glasscats when one of the fish caught my eye. At first, I suspected it was diseased, as it was looking really bad, it's peppered appearence notwithstanding). The majority of it's anal fin was in tatters and half of it's caudual fin was missing. On closer inspection, I realized it was a big eyed glasscat. I snatched it up immediately.

Too bad he's all alone. For now, I'm keeping him with the kryptopterus minors, though it doesn't appear as if he will school with them. Rather, the indivdual in question spends his time sulking in a flower pot reserved for c. perugiae. He is, however, eating well, and will even chase away larger cardinals (speaking of which, I also purchased a trio of true P. axelrodi "Columbia" to add to my existing stock of Brazilians--they still school together, though) to get to bloodworms. Considering how he's been out of the bag no more than an hour or so, I think he'll be just fine.

Nice find.

Searching for contaminants is one of my favorite things to do when we get new shipments of fish in.

Nice cardinals, too.

Those are what I always see listed as Glasscats.
My LFS usually sells them for 3.99 each or 5 for 16.99

Congrats on the find! The rarest contaminent I've found is the Espei Rasbora...:%)

Are you sure, sneaky_pete? The only I only see two types of Glass cats around here commonly, and neither of them are that speckled kind in the pic above.

Probably because employees like me pick them out before the customers get a chance to.

I found a few Hemigrammus stictus in a shipment of rummynose tetras once, and I was overjoyed. They are an absolutely beautiful species.

Fine, burst my bubble, pete.

Actually, my LFS just last week I was in had a shipment of glass cats, some were solid clear, some were speckled, and some has a pale stripe down the back. He said they were a wild caught selection he ordered in from a rare fish dealer, and was selling all of them for 3.99 each.
I almost bought some of them, but then I remembered my tank is already overstocked!
Ah, maybe one day down the road....
They are a beautiful fish though Noodles! Congrats on your find! I dont mean they are common by any means- just that my LFS has some once or twice a year, maybe three times, but not more than that that I have seen.
More pics if you get a chance!
