Anybody ever had one of these before? Heard they can be VERY aggressive. Any info would be great!

Depends on the species of Upside Down Catfish.

The most common one that's called the Upside Down Catfish is Synodontis nigriventris, from the family Mochokidae. These fish are relatively peaceful and are actually good in groups. Not really the aggressive fish.

However, the Asian Upside Down Catfish, Mystus leucophasis, can be one mean SOB. These black fish can reach relatively large sizes and will eat small fish, even those you don't think they can eat. They're pretty mean and will fight within it's species and chase fish of others.

Yes, the one I saw was the Asian Upside Down Catfish. He was about 7-8 inches and totally black from what I could see. He's at my LFS with a $40 price tag.

The first one is a lot less inexpensive, and more commmon too. I *think* they aren't half bad in some community tanks. Really fascinating critters...I love watching them at work

I have 2 upside down cats, Synodontis Nigriventis. Great fish. They come out every night for their nutrafin sinking tablets. You could get those. They are peaceful, eat lots, and hide lots.

Here's a site you can go to:

I've kept a number of the Synodontis nigriventris before, and found them to be extremely timid. They are also well-priced.

as ppl have said S. nigriventis are very peaceful and get to 4'', but the catfish he is talking about is 7'', so it can't be a S. nigriventis:%)

asain USD, as said earlier can be quite aggresive, and gets larger than synodontis nigreventris. ther aren't a syno, but are from the mystus family, making them preditors, and they'll hunt smaller fish. i only recomend them for larger, more aggresive tanks

ry looking up their profile @ http://www.planetcatfish.com

Well I picked up a Chinese Upside Down Catfish today (black one) and he/she is pretty sweet. I have it in my buddies 29 gallon right now until I get rid of my baby firemouth fry.
