I had an upside down catfish. Now I can't find him anywhere in the tank. I have a few silver tetras, neon tetras and a male and female pregnant swordtail. Could any of these have eaten him or could he have jumped out of the tank.

I have just done a partial water change and moved the plants around so the mommy swordtail would have a place to have her fry, and did not see him anywhere.

Puzzled in Florida....

Did youy check to see if he jumped out? If he was really small a wordtail might have eaten him but they have a barb on the dorsal fin that deters predators (or so you would think). Was he acting normal before this happened?

He was fine. Swimming upside down - staying behind the filter. Now I don't see him anywhere. I didn't know if they could jump or not. Never had one before.

USD synos are quite reluctant and i usually only see mine at nite when i feed them and don't expect to be able to see him during the day very often.
And what size tank is he in? USD synos are schooling and he'd like some other USDs to hang out with

I have a 10 gallon tank. I am new at this. there really isn't much to hide under right now. I am just beginning and don't have much in there except for a filter, aerator 5 plants and a sign. I used to see him when I did water changes, because I would move the filter and he would run towards a plant to hide or feed.

A sign? Think you could get a cave?

I did finally get a cave. I didn't know they liked to hide until I started reading this forum and then found out a lot of things. I still cannot find him though. Have no idea what happened to him.

Catfish Lady, I have a USD Syn and you hardly ever see it. It hides very well. I say yours is camouflaged somewhere. I hope you do fine its ok.

I've never personally heard of an UDC jumping.

I would just leave him. My nan had a Stripped Raphael in her 10g which we didnt see at all until the heater broke and made him come to the op to cool down, which was when I took him home to my 55g and I only see him now if I look up a hollow in the bogwood where he hides out. I have only seen him out properly approx 4 times in 6 months.

Sorry to change the subject but how long do you know it will take for the 2-3inch Raphael grow to 6-8 inches? So far we had him at nearly 2 inches and has grown maybe an inch at max in 8 months
