Otos are small, shoaling plecos. They are very efficient algae eaters, and grow to about 2" depending on the species. The name "oto" applies to two genera, Otocinclus and Parotocinclus.

This is the most common species, O. affinis.

no probs mira!

i know how easy it is to get carried away when your at your LFS and dont really research the fish before buying. i think we are all guilty of doing that! i have learnt the hard way with some fish (especially with plants!) that this is probably not the best way to go! i know my LFS is pretty crap with helping customers on how to care for, and what fish to chose so i usually go home and go online to find out more about the fish. so remember to do your research! an extra day without the fish will save you many hours of heartache and some money if you chose wrong!

Otos can be sensitive, like the company of their own kind, and need an established supply of algae. I also give mine algae wafers and fresh veggies.

How many you should have depends on the size of the tank you're going to put them in. The more the better, but you should make sure they all get fed.
Yes, if you don't have enough algae, you need to supplement their diet with algae wafers and vegetables. Veggies seem to be preferred, though.
