Weitzmani spawn. | |
Cup_of_Lifenoodles Fish Guru Posts: 2755 Kudos: 1957 Votes: 30 Registered: 09-Sep-2004 | The process began about an hour ago and is continuing as we speak. I held off last week's fifty percent WC, then did a 70 percent this afternoon after noticing cleaning action last night. The temperature in the tank is about 70, maybe less. Java moss and a spare hypancistrus breeding cave, bare substrate with 2 airstone driven filters. Spawning occurs in typical "T" style formation. Eggs laid in java moss. Two males, two females involved. Pics. Red circles indicate signature pelvic pouch. I was unable to get pictures of the T position, as I snuck in, took two shots, snuck out, etc.: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Kleevage/breed2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Kleevage/breed.jpg |

Of course, I also assume that the hardness of the water here is going to be a bit overwhleming for the eggs, seen here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Kleevage/egg.jpg which are not actually infertile--YET. |

Once they've spawned, you should find that the survival rate of future batches of eggs in future spawns increases with time as they accustom themselves to your water. Time to fire up an infusoria culture and buy some Liquifry! Post pics of any successfully hatching babies as and when they arrive - it'll be nice to have some competition for my Pandas at last! |

Hopefully, this will either improve with experience or RO addition. On the plus side, the L-66 are in the cave spawning again after a month's hiatus from tank rearranging. |

madattiver Enthusiast Posts: 262 Kudos: 151 Votes: 0 Registered: 03-Feb-2003 | congrats on the spawn.. but i don't think you will have to alter your water by using RO.. my water where i live is very hard and i have spawned and rasied many species of corys so far without any problems. you also have to remmeber that if this is the first spawn by them that the fertility rate will be low.. as it always is.. and the more they spawn the fertility rate will increase as they get the hang of things. so be patient.. save the time of altering the water and enjoy them until they spawn again. |

Cup_of_Lifenoodles Fish Guru Posts: 2755 Kudos: 1957 Votes: 30 Registered: 09-Sep-2004 | It is odd though; none of the corydoras that I've spawned thus far have had a 100 per cent infertility rate, among them, aeneus albino, peru goldline and regular, panda, sterbai, and even the adolfois were fairly consistent. |

madattiver Enthusiast Posts: 262 Kudos: 151 Votes: 0 Registered: 03-Feb-2003 | i am up to 9 species of corydoras spawned (c. similis, c. aeneus, c. panda, c. caudimaculatus, c. me just give them a few more spawns before you go messing around with the water.. i don't think that will make much of a difference.. our ph coming right from the tap is around 8.0... in the tank around 7.8. and have never touched the water to make it softer and have raised hundreds of cory fry without any problems. just my 2 cents.. might save you alot of work if you just wait. it's not like they will all the sudden stop spawning and never do it again. once they start it is often hard to stop them |

Cup_of_Lifenoodles Fish Guru Posts: 2755 Kudos: 1957 Votes: 30 Registered: 09-Sep-2004 | Well, Scleromystax, to the extent of my knowledge, are fairly TDS (or rather, the softness associated with it) dependant, perhaps not so much in regards to infertility, but at the very least relative to hatching, so getting fertile eggs from the group in such water conditions does make me a bit more hopeful. |

madattiver Enthusiast Posts: 262 Kudos: 151 Votes: 0 Registered: 03-Feb-2003 | well i wish you the best of luck.. and please do keep us updated on future spawns. i really wish i had the oppertunity to get my hands on some of these corys myself.. i guess i will have to wait for people such as yourself to kick up the production lines if i ever want to get any. and since they seem to be along the same line as pandas as per spawning, i am sure it won't be too long before the market has adequate tank raised fry available. |

Cup_of_Lifenoodles Fish Guru Posts: 2755 Kudos: 1957 Votes: 30 Registered: 09-Sep-2004 | No (as is the norm, at least from what I've witnessed, it takes at least two weeks to condition a female into breeding colors after a spawn), but over the past week, it seems as if my C-35, after adding a few new fish) have finally spawned again, after a LOOONG hiatus (hell, the fry from the last spawn are almost an inch long now), but I can't be sure, as the planted ten is literally a jungle of xmas moss, and the orange lazer went at it, after working with them for over 5 months. It's been a good month in cory-ville. Pics to follow if I can find any remaining fry. |
