The IBAMA of Brazil is now deciding whether or not to place a ban on Zebra Plecs. So dear god, buy as many as you can now since a ban will mean NO MORE ZEBRA PLECS until breeding populations are higher, which will take years... Heh, I guess the Aussies didn't really have them in the first place, but anyone in a country that they're legal in better pick'em up, 'cuz while they're rare now, they'll be impossible to get if the legislation is passed.

That's kinda bad advice.

Cos if there is a sudden surge in demand for them and the exporters try and meet this demand then it will virtually seal the ban.

Don't worry if the ban does go through it will probably fuel research into zebra plec breeding and thus making them more availableand cheaper!

No. Unless I or my informants are mistaken, there is currently a quota, a limit on the Zebra Plecs that are allowed to be caught. Exporters can't do a darn thing if the fisher's aren't even allowed to get them.

The Zebra Plec is already being captive bred, however having about 10 fry per batch makes it an extremely slow process. There are no large-scale breeding projects so far as I know just because the process is just too slow. Captive bred plecs are currently coming out at a trickle's pace.

I'm not against the ban, I'm telling people to get the zebra plecs now so breeding is actually possible. After all, one reason there are so few captive bred Zebra Plecs is because there are so few Zebra Plecs to start with.

And if the ban goes through then there will be a bigger incentive for breeders to increase their output due to higher prices. Cos after all money is one of the biggest motivators out there

I assure you, all Zebra Plec breeders are already trying to increase their output. They don't need anymore incentive. :%)
