I was at my LFS yesterday and they had a 5 inch Vampire Pleco for sale for 29.99 USD. Now I'm kindof new to the Pleco world, I've only kept common plecs and Clowns. I can see the hefty pricetags for Royals and Zebras but why are the Vampires so pricey. The only thing thats even interesting about them in my oppinion is the horns. Other than that they resemble a common. Are they just that rare? Someone fill me in because this is bothering me lol.

The rarer the Pleco is, the more $$$ you pay. I think that's the answer.

Vampire plecs are somewhat hard to get ahold of, which accounts for part of the price. Also, there is a pretty fair demand for this fish, which boost the price higher. They are pretty neat plecos, so I can see why they cost so much.

30 dollars is "much"? Nearly all juvi fancy plecos cost at least twenty dollars. A five inch vampy is a great deal.
