are your fish mbuna, because if they are they enjoy grazing on the algae, so just wipe it off the front of the glass everyone once in awhile but leave the sides and back covered.

if not than i can only suggest what i did, i bought a rubbernose pleco, only because i like plecos, and put it in my 30usg with my 6 yellow labs and they dont bother it at all, in fact they pleco and labs actually touch eachother sometimes and nothing happens.

somtimes when i feed algae waffers the labs go after them but the pleco just swims over and pushes the labs out of the way. its kind of funny to watch.

What kind of algae is it? You can probably leave it their, it makes it look more natural. I think Synodontis njassae eats a bit of algae, that a catfish native to there.

Ideally, go for fishes that are already native to the Rift Lakes. Which means I would not subject Bristlenoses (which are Amazonian fishes that like soft, slightly acidic water) to the conditions in an Mbuna aquarium.

As well as several Synodontis species, check out the Genus Chiloglanis. These are African sucking catfishes (known colloquially as "Rock Catlets", several of which are native to the Rift Lakes and are therefore eminently suitable for an aquarium containin Mbuna. Chances are they would nuke your hair algae in much the same was as Siamese Algae Eaters did in my characin aquarium.
