I set up my 29g about two weeks ago. I have 8 neons in there now. I seeded the tank and only saw ammonia and nitrites for about a week. I just checked the water and no ammonia or nitrite now!

I want to move my panda cories from my 55g to my 29g. I have 6. I really think the bottom area of my 55g is a bit crowded and want to move the pandas as soon as I can.

I know they are sensitive...that is why I am asking and not just doing it. When will it be safe to add the pandas to the 29g? I have plants in there and will add a cave for them to hide in so they will feel comfortable. The bottom of my 55g stays so dirty that I have to vacuum every other day and I think the pandas would be much happier in the 29g clean bottom.

How long should I wait?

If the tank is fully cycled you should be able
to go ahead and add them any time now.
What kind of bottom feeders do you have that makes
you have to vaccuum your tank every other day?
I have tons and dont do mine that often, nor does it get very dirty.

I have 8 corydoras sodalis, 6 pandas, 3 yoyo loaches, and 1 BN who produces more waste than any of the other bottom feeders. I also have a huge algae problem that is all over the gravel and looks horrible so I have to vacuum it up.

Sounds like the tank is ready for the panda cories. The only thing you would need to worry about is acclimating the fish, unless the water parameters for each tank are similar. In that case, you should be able to plop them right in without trouble.

Yep, take care in the transfer, and they should do fine if you're getting a 'safe' reading from your kits.

That 29 will be not that dissimilar from my setup - I have 12 each now of Pandas and Cardinals

I reckon that if you're going to stick to Neons and Pandas in the 29, you could have 12 Pandas and 16 Neons with ease, especially if you have decent filtration running there.

As for your 55, the big question I have to ask is this: any live aquarium plants in there?

If you only have fake plants, that's your algae problem more or less nailed down. Live plants will, if given the chance to establish, out compete the algae and stop it from taking over. Thing is though, you have to pick your plants carefully. Start off with tough ones like Java Ferns to 'bed in' and begin the process of removing the nutrients and starving the algae out (not least because Java Fern leaves are tough enough to clean with a nylon pan scourer if you need to!) then once the algae is more or less on its way out, start introducing some other plants that are less hardy.

I'd also make sure that you put live plants in the 29 ASAP, not only to keep your Neons and Pandas happy, but to make sure you don't get an algal problem in there also.

Just take as much care as you can & make sure that the parameters & temperature, are nearly the same, so they don't feel a big difference.

Cali: I did get a safe reading and I am going to check the water again tomorrow..before I move them just to be safe.
I have the 8 neons and plan on adding about 8 black neons eventually along with the pandas also. I will add the pandas tomorrow and wait atleast a week before adding the black neons. Don't want to cause any problems.
I do have live plants in the 29g. I also have a couple fake that I put in there temporarily so the neons would feel safe. I have wisteria, bacopa, rotala indica, and dwarf sag in the 29g. Fast growing stuff. They are all doing great.

I have all live plants in the 55g. The ones I have left are rotala indica, bacopa, wisteria, dwarf sag, java fern, and a couple crypt wendtiis. This algae is horrible. I have a thread about it on the Water Quality board...its titled "Microorganisms?". I just can't get rid of the stuff. I actually have about 3 types now...with the one in the post being the most frustrating. I have ordered more plants, but they haven't come yet. I hope it will atleast help to put more plants in there. That stuff is killing my plants pretty quickly.
What other plants, besides java fern, would help to quickly out compete the algae?
