After the unexpected and unexplained death of my poor albino BN plec, I am left with a tank that has been cultivated for algae. I miss my poor Daffy Dilly and have given thought to purchasing another BN (not albino this time) to take over his job. However, I love the cuteness of ottos, too. Soooo... the question is, would one be better than the other in my tank?

It's a 20 gallon long that's moderately planted and running for six+ months.

Current inhabitants:
6 betta girls
6 black neons
5 Cories (four trilineatus, one agassizzi with three more on order)

How would waste production of one BN compare to say, 4-6 ottos? Would one or the other be better suited for my tank?

If you want both i would get like two otos and the BN. Good luck!

Both? Wish I could, but I think that would make me way overstocked. Besides, aren't ottos schoolers?

yeah they are. Hmm i would go with the BN then it would clean up faster in your 20. but if you want some thing that looks good in your tank and cleans the algae. I would get the otos.

One of my very favorite fish dies and you deem him ugly? Thanks.

Does anyone know what would be the comparison between a small school of ottos vs a BN when looking at bioload?

Get a BN.

They are great Algae Eaters.
