Hey guys... if anyone is planning on coming over to Preuss, lemme know. You can get my email address from Diane and I'll be able to walk you through the store and show ya stuff like the QT area.

If you're coming for plants, let me know at least two weeks in advance. I order the plants for the store and can make sure to have the species you're looking for, just in case we've run out. Stuff like val and some of the swords don't last us through the week, depending on how many people are setting up new tanks. Just thought I'd give y'all the heads up.

-Sarah

Live daphnia? The Hikari Daphnia is good, but it's freeze dried and floats .

I've seen frozen daphnia, maybe I'll try that. I'm reluctant to do live foods I don't grow because I'm concerned with disease. I don't really have the time or place to culture daphnia.

Hey, fish1 - what's wrong with that tank??? It's nice. And you're how old?

While some may not believe in mixing FW and SW stuff, I'm sure the fish don't mind the rubbery thingy in the center . I would imagine they have fun with that.

Look out for those shells and that amethyst tho. Could play with water hardness and ultimately pH. The amethyst itself shouldn't be a problem, but the rock it is set in, may. I have one and almost put it in, then took it out.

What does your pH run anyway?

- I'll bet they do. I could have a tank with just 20 of them in there

They are doing extremely well today. No hint of any problems so that one must have just been in shock. Nothing like food to bring 'em out of it :88).

I just love how they explore all of the strata and even swim in midwater.

One observation I've made is that the 5 do not necessarily stick together as I expected. However, I'm thinking that in a 20 gal long with the other fish they may - I hope. I love watching them swim together.

Congratulations on finding more habrosus Cory_Di!

Just wait till those guys are settled in - you'll have as much fun with them as I do with my Pandas!

Oh, don't forget - if you can get it in quantity, carpet bomb them with Daphnia. They'll love you for it.

cory_di, sweet pics! i luv your cories, i wanted to get some that r active, like u said that come out and actually "play on" the stuff u put in the tank for them... r the ones u got the only kind that r so lively and not shy like the other ones? or is there more species???

oh and by the way , i went to the website of the pet shop u got your cories from , and i gotta tell u a store here in phoenix has the SAME EXACT photos of " their" fresh water fish as the one www.preusspets.com i just thought i'd share this, if i remember the name of the website here in Phx i'll let u kno. i just thought that was kinda pathetic of the LFS owners here in AZ , i mean they r just pics, snap ur own !!!
" yella bellied" fools how dare they! i'll let them have it if i could only remember the name.. hmmmmm

These habrosus cories are known to be quite lively throughout the day. If overfed, they get lazy. I should know. Mini-me gets quite lazy if he eats too much and spends alot of time foraging if I don't . I guess it's not rocket science afterall. He'll be so happy to have tank mates.

I figure it is important to let these guys grow a bit while there is no competition. Once they get in the main tank, everyone - including the guppies, white clouds and rasboras pick at the algae wafers and shrimp pellets. They'll need to learn to compete.

- But don't do it with your current stock. These guys can be a little sensitive to water quality and must go into a tank where other fish, who may only be playful, won't pick on them. They become targets due to their tiny size. They also have a harder time competing for food. I've known people on this site who have just dedicated habrosus tanks. Those 5 in the 10 are actually perfect. In general, I would recommend keeping them in 15ppm or less nitrates from what I have read of other habrosus keepers. My 20 long has gone higher, like 30ppm, but in general I keep it between 5-15.

Thanks. I hope the cories feel that way too.

I always keep fake plants and caves on hand. I just soak them in a little water with bleach overnight, then rinse many times with dechlorinator and air dry a few days. Comes in handy in a pinch. I threw this one together in about 30 minutes. The only new thing is the gravel. I usually don't recycle that. I also keep several air pumps and heaters down to 25w and 50w for emergencies. I look for them on sale.

Congrats on your little ones! I do wish they'd carry them more often; I've seen them only a couple of times over the last 4 years (since I got back into the hobby). I saw A C. hastatus last week, but wasn't able to get him at the time. Poor little thing, he needs some friends! I hope all of yours make it!!
