Well, it's certainly funny how he all of a sudden decided that's how he wanted to sleep! Last night he was doing it again, and he was almost cuddled up with one of my Chinese algae eaters they were sat so close! Him, the CAE and my clown loaches all seem to have a little posse going on, they hang out together near some bogwood all the time....!

I really would not worry at all loaches are a law on to themselves. They do their own thing how they want and when they want lol. You will find that they do all sorts of weird and wonderful things that scare the life out of you but that's just loaches for you.

Leave him on his own for a while and see how he gets on but don't worry about him on his side he is fine. If he carry's on being fine on his own then just leave him that way its not worth taking the risk of him killing others again if he is that way inclined. I know its not suppose to be that way but every fish does have its own personality and hey maybe just maybe he is happy to be alone.

Don't worry I don't make a habit of tapping on the glass and freaking my fishys out! I just did it once to see if he got up which he did thankfully.

I have only one yoyo, which I know is not ideal, but when I had two this one chased it around and killed it with stress. I can't fit many more fish in, maybe three would be ok to have, I'm just worried about this one getting viscous again....

Don't panic my yoyo loaches do it all the time. They are just resting. I was the same when I first saw mine do it. Its really nothing to worry about. Mine get into some odd places as well. Try not to keep tapping on the glass or poking or prodding him coz that is a sure way of stressing him out and then he will become ill and die. I had a clown loach before my yoyo's and I kept on tapping the glass and poking and prodding him when he laid on his side because I thought something was wrong needless to say I killed him in the end with all the stress. Just let him be and he will be fine and grown into a beautiful fish. How many do you have because they normal like to live in groups.

Loaches are my favourite fish, (apart from my hoplo's!) I love the little guys. Sometimes I wish I could take my fish out and pet them they're so cute.

Hi everyone.
I'm kinda worried about my yo yo loach.

Today my boyfriend was looking at the tank and he suddenly shouted "oh no! the loach is dead!"
I ran to the tank (prepared for the worst ) and I saw my yo-yo lying on his side at the bottom of the tank.

I tapped the glass and he sort of woke up, swam away a bit, and then did it again. I know clowns are famous for resting on their sides, but I've never heard of Yoyo's doing it. After berating my boyfriend for scaring me, I watched him swim away into some caves.

His breathing looked a little fast for my liking, so I panicked a bit and moved the filter up so there was lots of surface agitation, just in case the oxygen was low, but I don't think this is the case because no one else is having problems.

Is there something wrong with my yoyo or do they, like clowns, exhibit this behaviour sometimes? I don't know whether to be worried or relieved!

Both my queen loaches and yoyos do this, not only on the substrate but on the driftwood as well.

And of course my all-time favorite and biggest scare was seeing one of my kuhlis like this...gotta love loaches

Yes, all my loaches will do this except my dojos.
3 yoyos, 1 polka dot and 1 queen, all upside down sleeping in the weirdest and most comfortable looking positions all over the tank. One uses a huge java fern leaf as a hammock LOL
This is why we love loaches isnt it?!?

i have 3 yoyos and watch them have a game of tag then a "insta nap" in mid chase lol. yup all 3 going full tilt aroudn the tank ziggin and zaggin then BAM stop dead in the middle of the tank all at the same time then fall over and have a nap lol. funniest thing ive ever seen.

one also thinks the fake plant is a hamick and i often find him sleeping lifeless on his side swaying back and forth witht he current 4-5 inches up in the tree lol.

the more you watch them the more you discover they arnt far from a pack of cories when compareing humor

Yea, I had 4 yoyos, pretty normal behaviour for these boys. Once a loach, always a loach...

most loaches have the particular habit of lying down on their sides in the bottom of the tank...including yo yo loaches...on a few occasions my yoyo have done this also...he probably was breathing fast because you startled him, nothing to worry about in my opinion

my thought was that all loaches did the small sim behavour like playing dead. i wouldn't be almared, because you scared him, that's probably why his is breatheing fast.
