Might anyone know where I can find a few black and white zebra plecos? before I even knew the price of them I thought they were some beautiful fish. Then I found out that the LPSs in my area would ask about $150 if they could even get them. I also saw on LiveAquaria.com they were asking $250 for one.

So it seems that I can't afford these beautiful fish.

What value would everyone out there put on a zebra pleco???

Might anyone know the amount of time it takes to breed zebra plecos?

Only the fish themselves can tell you that. If you're doing everything right, I'd say you'd start to see some spawning action within a few months.

I've seen them for as little as 80 and as high as 200. I think it just depends but i will agree that the price has gone up and probably won't ever come down.

hey noodles I'm in need of a hook up here
It is sad, they are all I have been thinking about lately... how to set up the tank, possible filtering options, should I put other fish in with em, or should I just make a 55 gallon zebra pleco breading tank

Personaly I like the last option, but my chances seem slim to none. I have been reading all about them the last few days, how to breed em and their behavior. I think I have an idea on how to breed em, but we will have to see once I get a few, IF I get a feew

So anyway if any one can get a hook up on some Zebra Plecos, I'll be at your door step in an hour

What are ideal lighting conditins and feeding conditions for zebras?

I have heard that they are more active at night and that is also the time to feed them. Should I have them on the same schedual as my other tank, or should I switch days and nights so that I might be able to see them while they are active?

Most lighting is fine, as they just hang out in their respective hidey holes most of the day. Ideally, however, a dim light enviornment is best, as in the wild, they have little residual light in the deep, stained waters of the Rio Xingu.

How active are zebras?

Should I set up my tank so that they can be active?
Or should I set it up so that they can lounge around?

thanks
Dustin

They rarely come out, save feeding time. Even less so with a powerhead. My new female is the only one who is regularly seen outside of her clay fortress.

A three inch diameter PVC pipe makes a good home for a zebra. Cut about a 7" length of pipe, plug one side with some sort of medium, and partially bury it in the substrate.
