Are skunk loaches aggressive at all? I'm actually looking for yoyo's but no LFS has them. Most only have clowns, Blue Botia, & now I have found an LFS that has skunks. I have a 55 with 2 blue Gouramis, 1 bristlenose plec, 4 cherry barbs, 1 paradise fish, & 3 danios(not sure if i'm keeping), 1RTBS.

By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Skunks CAN become a bit nippy, as with queen loaches. They are generally peaceful, however.

Yeah, skunk loaches are sometimes pretty nippy. It just depends on how they feel. If you are concerned about aggression, I'd just keep looking for yoyo loaches, instead.

Kuhli loaches are peaceful and entertaining (when they're not hiding), and zebra loaches are supposed to be nice, too. Yoyos are the coolest out of all of these though, in my opinion. I think they're worth the wait.

i'd get chain loaches, if your LFS has any and if your RTBS doesn't bully them. but if you don't want to take the risk/ can't find them i'd get either kuhlis (my preferance even though you wouldn't see them that much) or just wait for yo-yo loaches to come in

Actually, I think skunk loaches might be good for his tank... He seems to have mostly semi-aggressive fish, and I think that yoyo loaches might get bullied by the RTBS. Skunk loaches are tougher and are excellent for a semi-aggressive tank.

what about Dario Loaches AKA queen loaches. They are available to me but when I look them up every site has a different max size (some put them @ 3" while others @ 6" & anywhere in between). They all claim that these loaches are peaceful though. What do u guys think about Dario's

They are similar in temperament and size to skunkies (maybe a bit larger).

Botia Dario- the queen loach.
I cannot say enough good things about these loaches.
I have one, and am looking for more since. They are friendly, peaceful, not at all aggressive (except the occassional inter-loach squabble every once in awhile). They are a nice size, beautiful fish, with comical personalities!
I would highly recommend this loach. I dont find them to be at all like skunk loaches.
Skunks are aggressive, intolerant, and bullyish.
I wouldnt reccomend them.

What are you talking about? Skunks are fun, peaceful fish that generally tolerate conspecifics. Queens are similar temperament wise but, like the skunks, can be nippy.

Skunk loaches aren't that mean. They can be a bit nippy, but are nippy in a controlled way. From what I've seen of them, they don't go out of their way to attack other fish, like you implied.

I went out & bought the Dario's. Got 2 of them & should be picking up another 1 or 2 this week (maybe 3 for a total of 5). Thanx for the feedback everyone. I didn't go w/ Skunks b/c I have heard of them being aggresive & killing smaller tank mates, now I don't know the conditions of the specific tank(s)but I just decided to try the Dario's out. I let ya'll know how it goes.

Yo-yos arent quite as peaceful as most people mentioned. In an under stocked 90 they ate all my endler fry, killed 5 clown loaches that were smaller, and then chased my cichlids non-stop until i had to remove the yo-yos. While i really like them I cant figure out what to do with them now. They have been placed into my feeder guppy tank ... needless to say all the fry is now non-existent.

This was a school of 5 ... understocked 90g with tons of caves and hiding places, medium planted.

I have this feeling that if i put them in my oscar tank they are just going to be food.

I think the best thing to say about loaches is that they all have the potential to snap and become aggressive and nippy.

Some just have a higher tendency then others... Clown loaches and kuhliis being low on the list and blue botias and skunks being higher... But the more you keep the less likely they are to snap... They'll be too busy poking each other. I try not to keep them in groups of less than 8.

If you have fish that can't take the heat in case your loaches snap, don't get them. I keep yoyos with a RTBS, neons and rummies with no problems.

I'm glad you went with the dario loaches, they are a low-midrange on the ole agress-o-meter. I think you'll be pleased .
