That depends on how small of an algae eater you want. Otocinclus are very small, but they should be kept in groups. Bristlenose catfish stay relatively small, depending on the species. Also, siamese algae eaters stay somewhat small, about six inches. There are others, but these are only some ideas. How small do you need?

ooh, what about an otto/dwarf sucking catfish. just read the profile on it and it says it only gets up to 1.9". sounds good to me!

They are great algae eaters, but they do have some strict care requirements. They need to be kept in groups, they need very clean water, with frequent water changes, and they need to be acclimated to a new tank over a long period of time. Think you can handle all of that?

ooo I know!!! Pitbull pleco. Great little fish, stays under 3" and will munch on algae. Not terribly common though, you might need to special order one from online or your LFS.

They won't "roam all over the tank" too much. Plecos, like most algae eaters, are nocturnal. You wouldn't get to see it out and about too much, but it sure would eat algae.

yup, your best bet is a bristlenose plec or a pitbull/rubbernose plec. they both will get rid of your algea (IMO they both look a lil ugly...in a cute way )
