Has anyone ever heard of angelica botica? I just brought him home from lfs today. They said they didn't know much about him because he was a new species to them. They did say he is from asia, but that's all, not how big he'll get or anything else.

I got him because he was pushing gravel around with his somewhat pointed face and vigorously digging for goodies at the bottom of the bottom and he shows no aggression to other fish. He is (currently) 2" long, narrow but not eel-like brown w/yellow spots, pretty verticle ] tail. Besides his anal fin he has 4 bottom fins, 2 midway and 2 just behind his head, somewhat like a blenny does, and small sail fin. Sorry guys I don't have a pic to post yet, that would help.

Seems he'll make a great bottom feeder, he digs like crazy. I just hope he won't grow up to a foot long. I know it's not a good idea to buy before you know what you're getting but I like him! I've put the name in profile searches here and other websites too, with no luck. Any info would be appreciated!

Well, you got two threads going, since I already answered the one in General Freshwater, for simplicity's sake I think all future responses should be posted there.

Generally speaking, you only need to post in one forum.

Actually, let's leave this one open since botias are bottom feeders. I am copying and pasting the links Joe provided in the other thread. Here they are...

Thanks guys, and sorry for the dbl post. New here and new to fishworld. Realized this should have gone to bottom feeder frenzy after 1st post, then it was too late... my excuses never worked w/daddy either.

This is one great little bottom feeder. Voracious mover of the gravel! But going to have to get some sand to gentle the substrate. Very pretty and I like him much better than other type loaches.

I wish I had a 125gal tank! Liveaquaria.com has them for 32.99 but my lfs is selling them for 11.99! I don't think my lfs really know what they've got. I'll see if they'll share supplier info for your lfs if you like.

Info on them:

Another seller but out of stock:

I have two of these little guys, got them about a week ago. They are pretty active and like the company of eachother. They are supposed to get to about 4 inches in length and from my understanding, are sometimes a very hard and very pricey loach. You might find some information about them by typing in Botia Kubotai. Be sure to watch out for ich. I only had mine a few days before they started flashing all over the rocks and now it has spread to my other fish. (Didn't have a quarantine tank at the time.) I'm sure you'll love watching the little guy!

You can't find them?
I know for a fact that petco and several other large pet stores in my area have them.

Just called my local Petco (CA) and she said they don't have them, never did and don't plan to.
Was it something I said?

They gotta start flooding the market somewhere and capitalize on a new demand. Do you have any? Do you know what Petco is selling them for?

I got one here a while back. It was labelled as a Kuhli Loach, and the People in Petcetera had no idea what it was!
I got him for 5.99 same price as a kuhli, and got another fish free!
Hes a great little fish. They are susceptible to ich though I have noticed as well, any stress at all and they come down with ich. Mine enjoys the company of a Queen Botia. I have had mine since around January, and he hasnt grown much. He eats plenty just doesnt grow.
I cannot find them anywhere in my area, petcetera just got some cuz the shipper didnt have any kuhlis lucky me!
I wish I had been there when they had all 6, I woulda bought em all.
