Theresa---I'm pretty sure you're stocking two females, though the head on the second one is a bit wide---on an unrelated note; holey MOLEY those prices are high on liveaquaria.

This is the same pic but bigger. You can't see the nose but I don't think this little guy(girl)has bristles.

This is my female when I first got her just over 2 months ago, she's not too much bigger now.

I'm not if this one is M or F I like the differences in their color.

Same plec here but this shot gives a better indication of its size. Really, really likes broccoli

well i was searching the web and found this. As you can see in the pics, most plecos with bristles belong to the ancistrus name.
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?siteid=21&pCatId=837
check out these especially.-bushy nose, starey night, albino long fin, albino gold bushy. Hope this is worth some use.

My lfs doesnt even get BN's in regularly...but if your lfs is reliable and carry more than one type, you could probably ask. I think that most stay rather small as far as plecs go.

well usally females only have a little bit of bristles unlike the males! so you very well could have a common plec what is the size of yours?? also my bn looks different than common plec cause of the color patten im sure yours is probably a female bn just with only some really tiny bristles you cant see!

Connor---just because your BN doesnt have bristles doesnt mean its a common plec. Most female BN's dont have bristles and thats usually how you sex them. You probably have a little baby girl, thats all. Can you post a picture?

Quite awhile ago I put a bn plec into my 15 gallon to help clean up algae. Well the algae is gone...but the bn is huge! I thought they only grew to be about 5...but this guy seems to be pushing that. He is also very wide, almost 2 inches. And he's usually very shy. Is this normal BN size?

There are several different species of bristlenose plec...at least 20 or more. I'm sure there will be differences in max. size between these species. Some will only grow to ~4" where others might max at 6-7". Also, some will grow much wider than others. I saw a huge male once that I'd swear had a head that was 2.5-3" wide.

My male BN is about 6 inches long and the same as yours...about 2 inches wide. My female is just a bit smaller.
