Are these Afro/Asian or South American?

If the former, then you're looking at Leiocassis siamensis (and at least one other species that also goes under the name 'Bumble Bee Cat' from the same geographical region, belonging to the same Genus).

If it's South American, then you're looking at a Pimelodid called Microglanis iheringi.

Try both of these scientific names on PlanetCatfish.com.

ah bumblebee cats..a favourite of mine
since you are in australia, i would presume you would have Pseudomystus siamensis]http://www.scotcat.com/factsheets/pseudomystus_siamensis.html[/link] or possibly [link=Pseudomystus stenomus]http://www.scotcat.com/factsheets/stenomus.html[/link]. both of these cats aren't the best choice for a community tank because they will be happy to eat small tankmates such as tetras. I do not believe that [link=Microglanis iheringi are available in oz. This cat is good for a community tank..unless you have very small tankmates for it to nibble on. There are also jelly cats..but it won't be them

Jelly Cats? NO WAY!

Psuedopimelodus fowleri, the Jelly Catfish, is a pig-ugly brute with an open-cast mine excavator for a mouth and grows to two feet! Looks NOTHING like a Bumblebee Cat! Put that in a community and your community will end up as its lunch in about five seconds ...

The Microglanis Bumblebee Cats are small. 2½ inches or thereabouts. Look under the Family Pseudopimelodidae (a new one on me!) for microglanis iheringi on planetcatfish.com, and see a very nice catfish indeed!

EDIT - apperently the Jelly Catfish is now Cephalosilurus fowleri. I really must update the database soon ... sigh ...

Ah. Yet more common name confusion.

The one I mentioned was introduced to me as a 'Jelly Cat' courtesy of Practical Fishkeeping and its resident oddball keeper, Richard Hardwick. Who also keeps something ridiculous in the way of Big Pim species - I think he has 20 of them! He also has a Jelly Cat listed under the name I cited above, and it's a beast.

Didn't know there were Pseudomystus Bumblebees as well as Leiocassis either. Yet more confusion!

Got it. Leiocassis are now Pseudomystus.

I really will have to update the database sometime ...
