I've got an albino channel cat who is about 6-6 1/2 inches long. He does this thing where he starts swimming in real tight circles and flipping end over end. This is the first channel cat I've ever owned and I was just wondering if anyone else has observed this behavior.

As far as I know channel cats arent' exactly appropriate for tanks. Most are caught as [link=sport fish]http://www.catfished.com/ed10-27.jpg" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link].

[link=Here is some info]http://www.thejump.net/fishlist/channelcat.htm" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] that might help out. based on the behavior description I'd say he's somewhat stressed. Iridescent shark also display similar behavior from what I've read when kept in tanks that are too small, anything under 300 gallons in other words.
Welcome to the site hope you stick around.

He shouldn't be all that stressed right now being as small as he is in a 100gal. Thanks for the info though

I haven't seen him rubbing on anything. He tends to do it in open water in the middle of the tank. He appears healthy in all respects and eats normally.

Channel cats are just strange:%)

My mother had one long long time agohe was suicidal and finally succeeded

Eventually though you will need a much much much larger tank or release him...they can get way too large for a normal house fish...is the tank planted? Plenty of aeration? Filtration?

probably just being silly...heidi

I have a large (24inch) red mellon sword, plenty of aeration. A little more filtration wouldn't hurt me though.
