I dont know what to do. Scince mid last week my clown loaches have been hiding and never come out to feed . They dont feed whilst i/anyone is near by. I dont know what to do. On friday i put in more broken pots for hidding spots. But now they dont seem to be comming out @ all. What can i do, i dont want to take out the pots so they feel safe. I dont know what cause be causing their timidness. All of these loaches used to feed from/out of my hands and its like over night they have turned.

I have
4 Bristlenose catfish
5 X-Ray tetras
6 Yellow tetras
4 Fire tetras (went in on thursday last week)
4 rummy nose tetras
2 bala sharks

they are all very small fish nothing over 3 inches (the sharks)

This is in a 49G tank.

Firstly, how many clown loaches do you have, unless I missed it somewhere? Secondly, when was the last time you did a water change and vacuumed the gravel? If you haven't done either a change or vacuumed lately, that could be your problem.

Along with what books said, are they new? B/c they might just be stressed and getting used to things which is totally normal. But I think you might be a little overstocked...that could do the trick too...

The trick is to eliminate all possible hiding places...

Clowns do not need hiding places and when eliminated will start schooling together.

I have at least 30 Clowns and it's a nice sight to see them scurry in schools all over the 125 gallon tank.

The school is all the security they need, especially if you have the required six Clowns.

When accustomed to a no-hiding atmosphere, they will begin feeding. Clowns are also nocturnal feeders. After lights out, if available, they will munch on Hikari sinking algae wafers.

Books,

I have 4 loaches, they are not new though they have been in the tank for about 2 months now. I will take the hidding places out i was just trying to create a spot for my bristlenose fish to breed. Yes i have changed and did a gravel vac just over a week ago. I am planning to do it on sat this week.
