Your corys are not C. agassizi, Pete. I can say that for sure.

I am at school right now so I do not have the time to go and research them, but I will get back to you soon.

Yes, I have only seen real C. agassizi about twice in the stores. I've never seen C. ambiacus, though, as C. melanistus is the "C. agassizi of choice" here. Each supplier seems to import a different species in place of C. agassizi.

Sneaky_pete-
C. agassizi cories are similar to C. julii in that they are often replaced by "imposters" in stores. Several other Corydoras species may be sold as C. agassizi, including many of the ones discussed in this thread.
Your C. ambiacus are actually fairly common, especially since they're sold as C. agassizi so much. You can treat them the same as you always have, they're pretty hardy fish.

Here are two links that will help you to learn about your cories:

C. agassizi has larger spots aranged in neat little rows. I am positive your fish are C. ambiacus.

Here is a real C. agassizi:

Cory Addict- C. ambiacus? Is this a common Cory?
Mine are always sold here on the Island as C. Aggassizi. I have never seen a different cory sold as aggassizi and I have seen them in 17 different LFS

C. leucomelas has larger spots and no black "shoulder" like C. melanistus does.

Pete - I found your corys. They are C. ambiacus.

Hmm, interesting fish.

Only melanistius has smaller body spots, as does brevirostris (still classified by some authors as a subspecies of melanistius) and delphax has a more elongated snout (although not quite as 'horse-faces' as the likes of pastazensis et al). C003 is a possibility, but unlikely. On the basis of this, I'm going to plump for leucomelas.

OK I thought for sure someone would have figured this out before now

So here are my best guesses by looking through the Aqualog Corydora

OK void that thoughtTheresa, congratulations you have 2 corries to round out your schoolThere are just too many in the book that match photo wise:%)

Then taking the 3 that sirbooks suggested, I think it is closest to being a C. melanistius...they both have smaller spots that are more vertical in arrangment to each other than horizontal or both. Both tails are more deeply forked, and both seem to have the same proportion of nose...along with those double black stripes on its head...

and Pete, those aren't agazzis, if i had more time i'd dig through the book for them too, but heck i need to sleep heidi michelle

I rescued these two little friends from a lfs today. I'm definitely not a cory expert so could I please get an ID on them?

Books is the closest so far. They are either C. melanistus, C. brevirostris, or some closely related C-Number. Though one of them in the first picture looks a bit like C. delphax.

They look similar to C. delphax... Like mine:

Barring that, your cories are probably either C. melanistius, C. brevirostris, or C. leucomelas. These cories are all pretty similar, you've got to look hard to figure out which is which.[/font]

This is so nice, happy cories again These two joined my five trilineatus and one panda. Right now half the group is napping, the other half is having lunch.

Not Schwartzi, not Agazzis, not metta, not panda, not hasbrosus, not skunk...does that eliminate a few If noone has figured it out when I get home, I'll go through my Corydora book. Enjoy them Theresa, they are cute little guys, heidi michelle

I have four of these. I think they are called Blackfin Corydoras or spotted cories. They are very sweet and peaceful.

I also bought some of them last week & i was told that they are Corydoras schwartzi. On second looks, i'm not sure, as the lines are not the same.
