I plan on adding new fish to my tank . It is a 46 gallon tank with 11 tiger barbs in it and I want to add a species of bottom fish, either corys or yo-yo loaches. my question is about compatibility - will the corys be ok with the tigers? my tank is planted and there are a few pieces of driftwood with hiding places etc. what species of cory would be good with the tigers, i presume one of the larger kinds. i dont know how large of a factor this is, but my substrate is just general gravel.

i presume that the yo-yo's would be alright with the tiger barbs, but what number - would 3-4 be ok in a tank this size?

As for cory's they will be fine. You have a fairly large school of tigers. I doubt the would even look at the cory. Just don't get dainty cory and u will befine. Remeber school of 6 or more for the cory. Plain gravel is fine.

While I have both I like loaches a bit more They're good bottom feeders and entertaining. Loaches don't have to be in a large school, they just like the company of their own kind, so even 3 is alright. I have queen loaches, kuhlis, and dwarf loaches.

I prefer cories, as they don't grow very large, (ie, other fish will fit in your tank) and are entertaining fish. In your size tank, I would recommend around eight cories.

thanks for the replys! i originally wanted cories from the time i started the tank, but then i thought that the tigers would be too much for them. now i just need to decide what kind...

I have a school of Corydoras agassizii sharing a tank with a Dojo loach. They often buzz around the tank in formation (particularly after I feed them shrimp pellets, which they go nuts over). It's as if the 4" Dojo thinks he's a 1.5" Cory! Pretty funny, and they seem to get along famously.

And I agree with the others, the tigers will probably ignore them.
